not as good as a round window /
just large enough for a head /
a face as well-travelled as Auden’s /
will keep the unserious questions at bay /
maybe just a wallet of a poem today /
stolen from the staff locker room /
tight but layered edged colours /
writer’s working out /
working on their hunchbacks and curled feet /
nothing like a bow tie /
to straighten the spine /
feeling that the eyes are still soft and moist /
later into the morning /
consider the luck that comes with /
never having to spell your name out loud /
the river, any river close by /
is a chorus for the moment brung
