fear of tables /
nothing worth remembering is flat /
even the prairie has wrinkles /
over miles /
glass will drip eventually /
pooling at the bottom of the windowsill /
and everything always looks hot outside steaming /
a prescription lens if you get on your knees /
as in a dream when you’re trying to solve a problem /
that can’t be described when awake /
the sun, the moon, a bicycle tire in the sky /
black pie pieces as dark as an unexplored well /
or something like that partially pulled forward into the alarm /
the rain is playing outside /
tapping on all the black keys /
a soundtrack for every tree /
that took a truck ride here /
yet to be a dream, contracting common viruses /
just for the family reunion /
and the important speech /
coughing over potential investors /
squirming for a cushy return /
of points filling every main floor room
